About My Life: The Sequel, a Girlfriend's Guide to Personal Success

Do I have time for a make-over? You must be kidding. I don't even have time for?

How can I live my dream if I don't know what I want and how to get there?

Is there a tool kit for women that includes more than hammers?

Will whining get me what I want?

How many times have you said "if only I had known that before I did ________?" You fill in the blank. I'll bet you've put everyone else first, even when something needed to be done for you...right?

Well if any of these ring a bell...or a gong...with you, you've come to the right place. As successful moms, career women, entrepreneurs, and wine-drinking girlfriends we've been there and done all of it. Yet, we've survived and even flourished. How? Some of it trial and error, some with help from our mentors, and some just hard work.

What if we had secrets to tell you? Secrets that include success strategies, working on, or even starting, habits, and a few exercises to get your brain engaged.

What if you could have a "do over"? You know what...you can.

How about making a choice instead of an excuse? What's the difference? We'll show you.

Where can I find resources and time to be the woman I see in the mirror? Right here...right now. All you have to do is start reading.

They say people come and go in your life for a reason. For my co-author, Mary, and myself, there have been many people, many kindnesses, and many seeds planted that have grown into this book. Ideas and inspirations have come from our individual paths and from the common ground we shared as women who simply wanted more out of life. We realized our life skills put us at a special spot in life. Whether we knew it at not…we were both successful women. It just took a little prodding to get us to realize it.

Several years ago I encountered a major career setback that had the potential to put me in a spot where I didn’t want to be. Until, that is, I realized it was just a setback. I didn’t need to live there. I had all the skills to begin again. And, with some help along the way, I started to believe in myself. I visualized myself as a writer…a good writer.

Today, my writing and editing career has put me where I want to be. Do I look at things differently? You bet. I dare to dream and see where it takes me. Success for me was not only a choice…it was the only choice.

Mary says "here’s the first of what I hope are many morsels of advice you’ll find helpful in this book: set a timer on you’re my-life-is-a-mess pity party."

"Yes, when I was discouraged and afraid, it was far easier to lie on the couch and cry about what I thought I couldn’t do than to get up and do what little I could. So, after days (ok, maybe weeks) of spending far too much time on the couch in my little apartment crying about the mess my life seemed to be in and how I had bitten off far more than I could chew, one afternoon I started setting the timer on my kitchen oven. I could cry and carry on to get it all out of my system, but when the timer went off, I forced myself to slither off the couch, put my butt back in the desk chair, and do something to make my life better."

"I always wanted to be someone, but now I realize that I should have been more specific." Lily Tomlin

As a little girl, I dreamed of being this or that. I think most of us did. Even as our dreams changed as we got older, those dreams were specific enough to give us a vision of our future. There was a purpose and a calling to be something special.

Maybe those dreams just took a little longer for some than for others. It doesn’t matter. Our lives as successful women can happen at any stage…just keep on working at it.

“What a wonderful dose of positivity to come into my life at just the right moment! I like the look of it - it's visually appealing, with a clean, easy-to-read look. I LOVE the quotes and the text is easy to skim, or meaty enough to dive into, whichever you want. Did I mention that I love the quotes? I like that the book is interactive and that the sample schedules at the end are realistic.“

“I applaud you ladies for helping us make daily choices with awareness. We live so much of our lives on autopilot that there’s no wonder it’s so hard for us to achieve personal success. I especially liked the grocery store analogy in helping us make life choices that are appropriate for us as individuals. I also loved the reality check grid. There’s nothing like a snapshot of how you’re living your life to motivate you take action. Well done!”
